MAINTENANCE
No matter what anyone says, there are no “no maintenance” decks. However, there are certainly some decks that require more care than others. We provide all of the information that you need to know to keep your deck, whatever material, looking good for years to come.
WOOD DECK:
To keep your wood deck looking good, it is important that it is properly cared for. Apply a high-quality stain preferably soon after installation (after the wood has had ample time to dry). Use a product that has both a U.V. protectant for damage from the sun as well as a water repellent. Generally, a sealant with a pigment (as opposed to a clear sealant) will last longer. We recommend that you apply a sealant annually the first two years to provide adequate protection, and then apply as needed thereafter as needed (probably every 3-5 years).
Adjust sprinkler heads so they do not hit the deck directly, as this will cause hard water stains to appear on the deck. If staining does occur or if the deck becomes discolored or gray for any reason, a high-pressure washer with 3000 psi can be used to clean the deck. This will leave the deck looking new and ready for staining.
Because wood is a natural product, it does not carry a material warranty. However, a properly installed and maintained wood deck can last 15+ years.
TREX DECKING & RAILING:
While Trex does not require staining or painting, like all exterior building materials, you may want to clean the deck periodically to maintain the aesthetic appeal of the product. We recommend basic cleaning with a composite deck cleaner or a combination of soap, hot water, and a soft bristle brush at the time of installation, and semi-annually (typically Spring and Fall) after the installation. A Care & Cleaning Guide is available on the Trex website. Trex Decking is backed by a 25-year manufacturer warranty. Additional warranty details can be found on the Trex website.
IRONGUARD ORNAMENTAL IRON RAILING:
As an outdoor product, the IronGuard railing will become dusty over time and may need periodic cleaning. Depending on the conditions at your property, the railing may benefit from a simple rinse with a garden hose or basic cleaning with soapy water and a soft brush or rag. Damage to the rail coating such as deep scratches or chips will require the affected area to be touched up with a zinc rich primer and a finish coat.
The IronGuard railing is backed by a 15-year material warranty.
CFC FENCES & DECKS:
CFC provides a one-year workmanship warranty to cover installation services. The warranty is in effect provided customers apply normal use to the purpose of the fence. Small repairs due to neglect or abnormal use (such as leaving gates open instead of properly latched when not in use or using the fence to retain dirt), or typical wear are not covered through our warranty but CFC is happy to provide advice to our customers in performing their own simple repairs and adjustments, or to provide our services for site work for a reasonable cost.
