Gate Standards and Functionality

There are industry standards when it comes to proper gate openings. There will be a (approximately) 1” gap between the gate and the gate posts, and a 2”+ gap on the bottom of the gate for proper functionality. While on our website pay close attention to the standard gapping. The gaps on a gate (whether on the side or bottom) are necessary for the proper function of a gate. There (gates) places on a return (to the home) fence line that is more optimal for gate – things to look at are obstacles and sloping.

When putting a gate across a driveway – there are things that need to be considered – How wide is the span (will double 6×6 posts (on a wood – cedar) if the span is more than 12’ – and we use a heavy duty metal insert on Trex®, how does the pad slope (all pads slope – if installed properly – for drainage – some slope in multiple directions), and which way do I want the gate to swing (most double gates swing into the front yard). CFC uses heavy duty latches and hinges that will help with the longevity of the gate function. The latches (for wood (Cedar), Trex®, Simtek®, or Fortress® ornamental iron) that CFC uses will lock or have a place for a paddle lock, and the hinges will add to the aesthetics of the gate.

There are other options for security latches – if you would like something other than the standard (key lock, keypad lock, etc…) that you would prefer let our estimator know and we would be happy to bid your project with the latch (or hinge) option you would like. There are also multiple options when looking at a hinge we have a standard heavy duty hinge that we use – so again if there is something custom you are looking for, talk to your estimator about your options.
